Welcome to TalkBarca. We are here with the latest transfer rumors that suggest FC Barcelona is very close to signing the Brazilian U17 World Cup Star Yan Couto. There is a lot of hype for the 17 years old Yan Couto and several clubs are trying to get his signature. At the moment, FC Barcelona is leading the race for the transfer of the young Right Back. However, Arsenal is not far behind us. Both clubs are in an open race to sign Yan Couto, let’s see who wins it.
Estimated Transfer Fee:
Rumors suggest that FC Barcelona has reached an agreement with Cortitiba over the transfer of Yan Couto. The defender will join Barcelona for a Transfer Fee of 5 Million Euro with 3 Million Euro in addons. If this deal goes through, Yan Couto will join Barcelona-B to gain some experience before joining the first team. We can also see him going on a loan right after he joins the club.
Player Profile:
As we mentioned earlier, Yan Couto is a 17-year-old fullback. Several European Giants eying him after his brilliant U17 World Cup campaign with Brazil. Couto is a typical attack-oriented right back much like Dani Alves. In fact, many journalists are already comparing him with Dani Alves when he was younger. Couto is known for his pace and ability on the ball which is something Barcelona always looks in their fullbacks.
Do we Really Need Yan Couto?
As we know, we have not been able to replace Dani Alves after his departure in 2016. Right now, we have Nélson Semedo and Sergi Roberto in the Right Back slot. Both of then are very good players in their own way, however, they are nowhere near the quality of Dani Alves. We also have Mousa Wague and Emerson (Currently on Loan to Real Betis) in the same position. Judging by the quality of the player, it seems like he will have a bright future. However, the question is, do we really need him when we already have 4 similar options in the same position?
It’s really tough to answer that question for me. It’s because Yan Couto is just 17 years old and he will most likely spend 1-2 years at Barcelona-B to understand our style, philosophy, and core values. Even then, the club may send him on loan to a La Liga side to grow as a player. So, it’s the right move to buy him if we are thinking about our long-term future.
