Welcome to TalkBarca. Today, we are here with the latest transfer rumors that suggest FC Barcelona is keen on signing Matheus Fernandes, the 21 years old Brazilian Box to Box Midfielder, from Palmeiras. Some reports even suggest that both clubs have finalized the deal already. ESPN and FOX Media reported that the player has already bid farewell to his teammates. It’s all rumors at the moment, however, it really seems like there is somewhat truth behind this transfer news.
FC Barcelona have scouted Matheus Fernandes several times during the last 2 years. Last Summer, Barca tried to sign Fernandes back in 2017 when he was at Botafogo but failed. Matheus then signed for Palmeiras in 2019 and it didn’t take him long to become the first choice player at the club. Barcelona have now renewed their interest and actively pursuing a transfer deal for Matheus Fernandes.
Estimated Transfer Fee:
Matheus Fernandez has a contract with Palmeiras that lasts until 2023. According to transfer rumors, Barcelona submitted an initial bid of 6 Million Euros to land Matheus Fernandez at Camp Nou. However, Palmeiras rejected that bid with the hope to get more transfer fees for the defensive midfielder. Recent reports suggest that Barcelona have agreed a deal with Palmeris over the transfer of Matheus Fernandez for 7 Million Euros plus 7 Million Euros in addons. As of now, it seems like the deal is already done, we just have to wait for an official confirmation from the club.
Player Profile:
Matheus Fernandez is a 21 years old defensive midfielder. To be precise, he is a box to box player with a great work rate and physicality. His playing style is much similar to Arturo Vidal. He is agile and can dribble out of pressing situations. However, his biggest strength is his Stamina. He is an engine who keeps running up and down the pitch to hunt the ball.
Do we really need him?
The Brazilian surely has talent but I don’t think he has the quality to play in the First Team of Barcelona. Most likely, he will be shown a door to the Barcelona-B to learn our style and grow until he is ready for the first-team action. Or we can see him heading out on a loan to La Liga side. Most importantly, we already have an overcrowded midfield especially with the inclusion of Riqui Puig in the first team. So, we don’t really need reinforcements in the midfield area especially if it’s a midfielder like Matheus Fernandez.

So, guys, this is it for the transfer rumors of Matheus Fernandez. Should we make this deal happen? Do you think Matheus Fernandez will join Barcelona? If yes, is it the right move? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below. Until next time, Visca el Barca!
