Welcome back to TalkBarca. Ronald Koemann spoke to the media ahead of the clash against Elche. It’s funny that when we all thought FC Barcelona is finally heating things in the La Liga as well as Champions League, teams like Sevilla, PSG, and Cadiz stepped up and ended all the hype. FC Barcelona seems to be back to page one at the moment. The current FC Barcelona manager had a lot to say about the current condition of the team and what to expect from them in the future.
He was asked a lot of questions regarding PSG, Cadiz, and also about the upcoming game against Elche. Koemann told the media that he is not taking Elche lightly and he expects them to make things difficult for his team. He said,
“Elche is fighting not to relegate and it will be a difficult game. I don’t know if Elche will play as far back as Cádiz did, but they got the most out of the game.”
Another major question to Ronald Koemann was about the starting lineup. The fans are clearly not very pleased with Clement Lenglet at the moment. It was a huge concern for everyone whether Lenglet is going to start tomorrow or not. However, the manager showed solid character and supported his player. He called it a bad phase for the player and that Clement was actually a world-class athlete. Quite honestly, we cannot disagree on this one. Lenglet has served FC Barcelona tremendously and maybe this might actually be a bad phase for the French Center Back. Here’s what Ronald Koemann said about this;
“I spoke to Lenglet this morning, he’s a great professional and he takes everything very personally. But as I said, we also made a lot of mistakes in attack, we could have made a second goal and with a 2-0 lead, such a play is not so decisive.”
The manager also spoke about Halaand or Mbappe and said that he is not certain about anyone at the moment and that it all depends on the upcoming president.
The defense is a huge concern for everyone and therefore, Araujo’s discussion stepped in as well. Koemann said,
“Araújo is getting better, but he won’t be there for tomorrow. We’ll see how he is next week.”
Koemann opted for a very neutral way of conversation with the media and this is what we normally see everyone doing in front of the press. He ended the Lenglet questions by saying,
“Lenglet starting tomorrow? These are decisions that have to be made as a coach. A player has to be convinced, show confidence in himself, and it also depends on the physical condition of the player, not only of Lenglet but of everyone.”
Jeremy Mathieu recently commented on FC Barcelona’s current condition and said that the team missed leadership, moreover someone like Xavi. Koemann responded by saying;
“There are leaders, there are captains like Piqué, Roberto, Busquets, and Messi. There is enough personality. They must lead the way and are important to show young players where we’re going.”
