Welcome back to TalkBarca. Our topic for today is Real Valladolid vs Barcelona Match Preview. We are going to travel away for another La Liga encounter now. This time we are going to face Real Valladolid. There is pretty much to talk about in this Match Preview because we were not impressive against Espanyol. Real Madrid is just about to kick off their match against Alaves. It is most probable that Real is going to win this game as well and that is going to maintain the huge points gap between us. Therefore, we must focus on our games only.
Winning every game is a major priority for us and I think that we need to have luck by our side as well if we stand any chance to win the league. Barcelona is currently at the 2nd place in points table whereas Valladolid is at 14th place with 39 points. This shows that we are proceeding towards a fairly easier fixture. However, you can never be certain about Barcelona. We can mess up against the easiest of the teams. Therefore, we must take this fixture seriously and go to it with full preparation. We can win easily.
I think Setien should keep experimenting with new strategies, lineup formation, and tactics. However, he must not get too much off track. An example of this is that he did not let Puig play in the previous game. That was a completely stupid thing. It triggered me a lot as a fan as I wanted to see the young star boy play. Therefore, Setien must make the right choices in his lineup choices. Griezmann should start again and we should see more from Puig. I am going to discuss later in this article in the expected lineup section. Let’s get started.
REAL VALLADOLID VS BARCELONA KICKOFF TIMINGS
The match kickoff timing for this game is different than what we are used to. This game is going to kick off at 7:30 pm local timings which means 10:30 pm in Pakistan and 11:00 pm in India. Barcelona is up for another challenge at José Zorrilla Stadium which is the home for Real Valladolid. This is our 36th La Liga game for this season and we are close to the end of the league. This has been a different season for us. We’ll discuss that later.
REAL VALLADOLID VS BARCELONA MATCH PREVIEW
Let’s just begin by briefly discussing our performance against Espanyol. Barcelona was lucky to get away with three points against Espanyol. They proved to be a trouble for us and Barcelona’s weaknesses plus inconsistency was exposed again. We were expecting a lot after that great outing against Villareal. However, it did not happen. You might or might not have noticed that Barcelona is playing with a pattern of one home game and one away game. Therefore, it is now time to travel away again to face Valladolid. I hope we realize our mistakes and play in a much better manner.
I’ll begin by talking a bit about Real Valladolid first. Real Valladolid is a team that is going to enjoy more defending than attacking. They have a habit of defending deep and this can trouble Barcelona. We are not the greatest in terms of attack and Valladolid’s deep defending can trouble us even more. Furthermore, they need only 1 point from the remaining 3 games to avoid relegation. Therefore, they are going to be ok withdrawing this game. I think their main priority is going to be to stop us from scoring rather than scoring themselves. That’ll trouble us.
However, I am also not saying that Valladolid is a weaker attacking side. Don’t get me wrong on this at all. They can be lethal when it comes to an all-out attack. Their forwards are quick and are never shy to take tries even from further out. Therefore, our attackers but also our defenders must be in the right frame of mind and mood to face Valladolid. I expect that they are going to play for a draw, but if they start attacking often in search of 3 points, we can have a pretty tough time. Let’s see.
More from Valladolid:
Valladolid’s coach, Sergi Gonzalez made it clear in his previous press conference that they are attack-minded at the moment. He said, “Our goal is to achieve as many victories as possible because we want that avoiding relegation is on our merit”. This means that our defensive players and Setien’s defensive tactics must be on point fully to help Ter Stegen keep another clean sheet. Valladolid has a lethal front three of Ramirez, Guardiola, and Unal who can give a tough time to Pique, Lenglet, Alba, Semedo, or whoever is defending in front of them.
Valladolid is going to another team that is going to be comfortable with us having the majority of possession. They are going to make sure that they attack us from the flanks because our current expected lineup is going to allow that easily. Furthermore, they are going to make sure that they stop our quick counters and clever through balls within tight spaces. They are well aware of how Barcelona plays and I think that it is going to be a difficult outing for the players in Blaugrana colors. Lastly, Valladolid is going to play without Salisu who is out injured.
What to expect from Barcelona?
There is not much to say about Barcelona. I think the game against Villareal gave us a lot of hope. However, the derby against Espanyol blew everything away. I think we are back to the bottom in terms of confidence or hype. There was not much of midfield creativity against Espanyol. Furthermore, our forwards struggled as well. Messi looked slower and it’s been a while since I have seen Suarez playing with good energy. Griezmann was comparatively better as he is trying to cement his name in the starting lineups. Let’s see how this one goes.
REAL VALLADOLID VS BARCELONA EXPECTED LINEUP
Ter Stegen is going to start in goal. He failed two times to get a clean sheet before the previous game against Espanyol. He was once again phenomenal in the derby. He made a couple of breathtaking saves which ensured that Barcelona walks out with 3 points. Therefore, his place in the squad is fixed and extremely vital for us. I do not see any Ter Stegen replacement for a long time in this Barcelona squad. I hope he continues similarly. I hope he ends this with another clean sheet.
Gerrard Pique and Clement Lenglet are going to be the starting full-backs for this game. They are going to be accompanied by Nelson Semedo on the Right Back and Jordi Alba on the left. Furthermore, Junior Firpo is also declared fit to participate in this game. Therefore, we might be able to see some of him if Barcelona somehow manages to score 2 or 3 goals against Valladolid without conceding any. I already mentioned above that this is going to be a tough day for our back four. Therefore, they must be well-prepared for it.
I think Puig deserves a start in this game. The midfield choices in the previous game namely Busquests, Roberto, and Raki did not seem to impress. I think we were lacking energy and creativity which is something they cannot accept in Barcelona. Therefore, I want Setien to start Busqi, Raki, and Puig in the midfield. I think this trio can work well for us and can help us dominate the Valladolid defense. We know that Setien is experimenting with new methods with our team but he also needs to keep a Plan-B because we need to win every game.
I think the reintroduction of the MSG squad is a huge step for us. Quique Setien needs to keep it that way. This trio has already proved that it can do wonders for us. However, if these three players keep playing regularly, they are going to get even better and Barca can benefit from that. Griezmann looks to be getting back in form and this is exactly what we require before Champions League starts again. Furthermore, Ansu Fati is going to participate in this game due to suspension. He picked up a red card in the previous game.
Therefore, we might not see the magic and creativity of the young Barcelona player. I also think that Quique Setien needs to or might give chance to Braithwaite. We have put money on him as well and we must use him to our full advantage. We cannot let the same happen to him to what was happening to Griezmann. I think Messi and Grizzy need to play full 90 minutes while Braith and Suarez can be substituted.
The final score prediction from our side is Valladolid 0-3 Barcelona. I am positive about a good result. I hope we fans get entertained.
