Welcome back to TalkBarca. Our topic for today is the Match Review of Real Madrid vs FC Barcelona. In this Match Review, we are going to discuss about our away trip to the Bernabeau. This is one of our worst outings of the season. It was the biggest rivalry in club football, and we lost. The match ended in favor of our all-time rivals, Real Madrid. We lost 2-0 on the day where it mattered the most, and what could have been the La Liga decider. I am devastated. I am really sad about it. It was a complete humiliation.
As I mentioned above that this game was said to be the La Liga decider if we win it. Many fans, and football pundits claimed that a Barcelona victory would settle the La Liga battle. However, it did not happen, and we are once again on the 2nd position on the points table. There is only 1-point difference between the two teams. This is not a big difference. However, we have shown that we are lacking a lot of quality, and expertise especially in away games. Real Madrid dominated us on the day, and our away trip was truly painful.
We have been dominating the El Classico for a lot of time now. Sadly, that domination period is over, and Zinedine Zidane has conquered us. We were unable to match his expertise. He came out as the better manager out of himself, and Quique Setien. Ironically speaking, Quique Setien’s meetup with Pep Guardiola certainly did not work. Our Cruyff philosophy, and all football knowledge we speak about has been once again kicked out by the opposition. It was yet another away outing, and we have once again failed to do anything significant. Not every team can be Eibar, you know.
REAL MADRID VS FC BARCELONA MATCH PREVIEW
I know that the title race is still on, and It is too soon to say that we are out of the title race. However, I am furious as well as upset on this result at the same time. This is not the kind of performance I was hoping for. Majority of our players did not click. Vidal was not up to the mark. Arthur did not deliver anything significant. Umtiti was awful, and so was Jordi Alba. Our attackers were really out of the zone as well. Tell me one thing?
Remember when Luis Suarez used to start as striker, and Griezmann on the wing? Our fanbase used to oppose this idea. We favored Griezmann, and blamed Ernesto Valverde. We accused Valverde of spoiling his career. Guess what? Griezmann really has not been clicking as the number 9 striker of the team. What can we say? Ernesto was right with his decisions maybe? We badly miss Luis Suarez these days. Suarez would have charged his way through the Madrid defense. He mixes up so well with Messi, as if both of them know where the other person is without even looking.
We even saw this in the game against Napoli. If we had Luis Suarez playing as the number 9 against Napoli, it was curtains for them. I don’t know what to say about Griezmann. I really like him as a fan. In fact, I am one big Griezmann fan boy. However, it is most hurtful when to put so many expectations in a player, and he fails to deliver. We really need to make up for what we have lost now. Speaking of expectations, Messi failed to deliver as well. Messi simply failed yet again in an important away game.
We need to get back on track.
REAL MADRID VS BARCELONA STARTING LINEUP
Let’s talk about the starting lineup. Ter Stegen started in goal. Was he not phenomenal? Ter Stegen once again showed everyone why he deserves to be called the best in the business. He made 3-4 breath taking saves. His best save was that shot stopped from Isco. What a sight! Ter Stegen is so good when he leaps into the air, and dives. He is also a leader on the pitch. He is always yelling at players who are off their positions. My future captain at Barcelona for sure.
Our defense consisted of Alba, Umtiti, Pique, and Semedo. Semedo was terrific. I am amazed about how well is grooming himself. He is improving day by day, and if he keeps improving at the similar rate, he might even leave Barcelona for better options. Pique was pretty good as well. Pique was all set for the Classico, and it seemed that he was in the right frame of mind. Our midfield consisted of Arthur, De Jong, Busquests, and Vidal. No one really clicked to be honest. Yes, statistically many of them are up at the top.
However, if you saw the game, it was evident that they are struggling. Especially De Jong. His pass accuracy in the game is around 98%. However, he seemed uncomfortable. Furthermore, the team depends too much on him to always play killer passes. Arthur missed a goal chance which would have turned the game to our favor. Not only Arthur, but Griezmann, Messi all missed their chances. In football, you don’t get too many chances always. Classico is all about availing those 1-2 chances you get within 90 minutes, and making most out of them. Sadly, we didn’t. Therefore, result is infront of everyone.
BEST INDIVIDUAL PERFORMANCE
Ter Stegen is the best player on the pitch for me. I don’t know about who received the Man of the Match award, but I don’t care about it anyway. For me, Ter Stegen is the future captain. He is a leader, and like a role model. I have already mentioned how good he was in the goal. We don’t deserve him, but we can’t afford to let him go. What a gem!
Anyway guys, this is it from the Match Review of the El Classico. I am sad about the result. Stay tuned for upcoming content. Until the next time, Visca El Barca!
