Welcome to TalkBarca. So, guys, the presentation we were all waiting for has finally taken place and Quique Satien has finally been revealed as the New Head Coach of FC Barcelona. It’s the first day of Quique Setien in Barcelona as the head coach and we are all very excited to hear out his ideas. Just before the official presentation, Setien took a training session where he made his first interaction with available Barca players including some players from the B-Team. Then, the second step was towards the signing of the contract.
So, Quique Setien signed a contract with Barcelona until June 30, 2022. However, there is also a clause in the contract that will allow the Barcelona Board to evaluate his performance at the end of every season to judge if he is the right man to carry on as the Head Coach of Barcelona. To be honest, I don’t think that Barcelona Board would ever need to activate this clause. However, it’s good to have a safety measure in your contract because that’s what good businessmen do! So, let’s now move on the official presentation of Quique Setien to Media as the Head Coach of Barcelona.
Quique Setien Presentation:
Our Board Members, Bartomeu and Eric Abidal presented Quique Setien to the Media as the Head Coach of Barcelona at 02:00 PM (CET). The Board Members handed him a Barcelona shirt with his name written on its backside. The media was constantly bombarding Bartomeu with questions. They wanted to know why Barcelona Board decided to sack Valverde Mid Season.
Bartomeu’s Explanation:
Bartomeu didn’t have a proper answer but tried to explain why he made this change. Here are the exact words of Bartomeu:
“I want to thank Ernesto Valverde for what he has done. The relationship has been very close and he’s made us all improve. We’re very aware that we have won many titles, and that the results were very good, but we believe that the dynamics of the team needed to be improved. We have made the change to face the final leg of the season with a new focus. Our Team needed new dynamics until the end of the season.”
“We had known for a long time that the dynamics of the team could be improved and we had talked with Valverde. We have had a close and uncomplicated relationship with him and we had been talking about it this summer.”

The Barcelona Board believes that with these dynamics, his team will try its best to win all 3 of the remaining trophies including La Liga, Copa Del Rey, and Champions League. Bartomeu then explained that it was the mutual decision of the Barcelona Board Members to terminate the contract of Valverde. He said Eric Abidal suggested the appointment of Quique Setien considering his vast experience and style of play.
Eric Abidal Praised Setien:
Abidal also talked about Setien and praised him. Here is what he said:
“Setien always focuses on the little details, the finer details. He reminds me very much of my time at Barcelona and the coaching we had in and around the club. And that’s why we wanted him to bring him at Barcelona.”
“He’s here because he has a good projection and we like the way he works.”

Quique Setien’ Words:
Those were some glowing words from our Technical Secretary. Then, it was time for Quique Setien to take the mic and address the media as well as all the Barcelona fans around the world. Here is what he said:
“I couldn’t have imagined being here in my wildest dreams. It is a very special day and I want to thank everyone who has chosen me. I am very excited about this challenge and project. I will try to convey my enthusiasm and my desire to the players.”
“My goal is to win everything that can be won, in addition to playing well. I believe that in order to achieve victory, it is important to associate the two factors.”
“I have enjoyed watching Messi in recent years. But not only him, the team and his teammates. They have made me enjoy football and I have learned many things from the players that I will now have the pleasure of training. And I am sure that we will have an excellent relationship, because I am a direct and sincere person.”
“I will look at the players from the academy because I like to give opportunities to young people. I want them to know that if they really progress, they will have opportunities in the first team.”
