Welcome back to TalkBarca. We have got big news for you today. LIONEL MESSI IS OFFICIALLY STAYING AT FC BARCELONA. The Cules can finally take a deep breath of satisfaction. The Lionel Messi transfer saga remained on the headlines for around 11-12 days. However, the news is official and Lionel had a long interview regarding it. Messi is officially staying at FC Barcelona for one more year. This news has come as a lifeline to Barca fans around the globe. No one wanted Messi to leave. Not even opposition players. Well, looks like he’s not.
This is one dramatic summer transfer window. We are seeing rumors and news of different kinds. Chelsea has bought, what seems to be like a dozen good players and they do not seem like to be at any shortage of money. Meanwhile, Barcelona is struggling to pay the weekly wages of its current players. Yet, we want Neymar back at the Camp Nou, don’t we? The news of Lionel leaving FC Barcelona came out in the middle of August and it shook the world of football. Many fans and even pundits ignored it at first because this sounded really impossible.
However, the tables seemed to turn when Messi opened up about it. The odds were also in favor of the Argentinean leaving Barcelona since Barca went trophy-less and got knocked out 8-2 in the CL. Messi also expressed his dissatisfaction with the FC Barcelona board. His lack of trust in Bartomeu was visible in front of the fans and the media. Messi seemed heartbroken and wanted to leave it all for good. Now, this was not the way legends, and also one of the best players in the world leaves the club. However, it seemed happening.
Lionel’s fax to the board demanding to leave the club absolutely stunned the entire football world. There were a lot of important things that were happening in other football areas as well. However, no one seemed to care about those and the media boldly highlighted Messi’s transfer saga. Twitter exploded with tweets where fans pleaded him to stay while many joined to make the spicy news even hotter. Apparently, everyone believed that Messi’s time at Barcelona had ended. Many clubs showed interested in him. Every club had unique offers. However, Man City seemed the most probable destination for Messi.
City offered a 3-year deal. Furthermore, the deal also stated that Messi would automatically get a contact in NewYork City FC after his time in Machester comes to an end. This was not it. The deal also made Messi a part of the City group after he was done serving his services in Machester. This was indeed a very juicy deal and something no player would want to deny. Pep is also probably staying at Man City for another season which even strengthened the rumor that Messi was indeed going to Manchester City. New rumors highlighted the news every day.
La Liga joined the party too!. The La Liga officials did not want Messi to leave either. However, they did mention that Messi was actually allowed to terminate his release clause and got to another club for free. This turned into a court case between Barto and Messi. However, the odds were always in favor of the Argentinean and his departure from the club seemed very possible. The rumors intensified every day and the Cules were gradually giving hope for their best player to stay. However, Sphera sports became the first ones to announce Lionel Messi’s final decision.
Messi had to take an interview in which he had to mention the decision he took. The fans waited anxiously for Messi to make his final decision. Goal announced Messi’s final decision that he has decided that he is going to stay in Barcelona for one more year. Lionel said,
“I would never take the club of my life to court. That is why I am staying”
However, Messi has clearly stated that he is still unhappy with the board.
“I wasn’t happy, I wanted to leave. I have not been allowed and I will stay at the club to not get into a legal dispute. The management of the club led by Bartomeu is a disaster”
He has specifically mentioned that Bartomeu is not the guy perfect to take the responsibility of the club. He is going to play for the club, but this does not mean that everything between the player and the president is clean. However, this is also pretty evident that Messi has complaints with Bartomeu’s board and not with FC Barcelona. His love for the club is still as pure as it was on day 1. He truly has Catalan blood.
“I told the club, the president in particular, that I wanted to leave. They know this since the start of the past season. I told them during all the last 12 months. But I will stay here because I don’t want to start a legal war”, Lionel further added. This makes it very obvious that Lionel is staying in Barcelona but his intention was not to. He has openly expressed his disappointment on the board and we have to wait to see how that is going to turn out against him. However, Lionel is officially still an FC Barcelona player.
“I will continue at Barcelona and my attitude will not change, no matter how much I have wanted to leave”, Messi assured the fans. The club elections are going to be held in March and we have to wait if the new president can come and convince Messi to stay for long. They Messi transfer saga is not ended, but it is paused for now. Messi has openly said that he is going to play for the club with the same hunger and determination as before.
However, it is a matter of time and we are going to know about it soon.
