TalkBarca is back with another hot topic circulating the Barca fans. Is La Masia dead? Is La Masia the same academy which produced players like Lionel Messi and Iniesta? Fans have different views on this topic. However, the critics are at peak. Following Barcelona’s disappointing performances in the near past, critics say that Barca is no longer capable of producing star players.
Where Did It All Go Wrong?
Things were already heated up for La Masia, but, what added fuel to the fire was the transfer of Xavi Simmons to PSG. His signing hit the Barca fans and the board like a brick. Being incredibly useful, Xavi Simmons was expected to play for the team in the future. Unfortunately, that looks less likely now.
With this transfer, the media went crazy as well. Critics heavily blamed weak system at the academy for this reason. Will Xavi Simmons return to Blaugrana color is still a question. Only the future will tell.
A sign of hope:
Following the game against Real Betis and Osasuna, things are more relaxed now. The reason for this is the young star boy, Ansu Fati. Ansu, at the age of just 16 made his debut for the first team against Real Betis.
Making an appearance for the club was one thing; however, his performance drove everyone’s attention. Ansu Fati was everywhere on the pitch. On the night which counted, he delivered a punch. Ansu Fati won balls higher up on the pitch. He also dropped down and linked up plays with the midfield. He had a couple of shots on goal as well which shows that he was active in the final third of the pitch. Everyone praised his performance.
With this type of play, Ansu Fati made clear that things are still alive at La Masia and better days are coming. La Masia is still the best football academy in the world. Our young prospects including Carles Alena, Riqui Puig, Ruiz, and most importantly Ansu Fati clearly shows how great La Masia.
The best thing is that FC Barcelona is reassembling itself to get back to our roots at youth level. The return of Patrick Kluivert as La Masia Head Coach and Victor Valdes as manager of Barcelona Juvenil A team shows real promise. Both of these coaches are the legends of the club and have the Barca DNA. Most importantly, they have a Barcelona Identity and understand the Phylosiphy of the club.
