Welcome to TalkBarca. It’s Match Preview time and today will be taking a look at Granada vs Barcelona Match Preview. Granada vs Barcelona is another crucial away fixture which makes it our 3rd game just in a matter of one week. This fixture is going to count a lot in deciding our LaLiga future.
September is a crucial month for us. We have many tight games. Our squad is not 100% complete and some match-fit players are not at the top of their form. Furthermore, Jordi Alba’s injury can be a problem for us heading into the away fixture.
GRANADA VS BARCELONA MATCH PREVIEW:
In this match preview, we take a look at the kick-off time, squad for Granada, Predicted Lineups, Predicted Scoreline, and few tactical points. Let’s do this!
The match is scheduled on 21st September kicking off at 9 PM as per local time. You can look at the image below and check the timings for your respective country.
Squad for Granada vs Barcelona:
FC Barcelona is going to take a squad of 18 players for the away leg at Granada. These players include:
Goalkeeper: Ter Stegen and Neto.
Defenders: Semedo, Pique, Lenglet, Junior Firpo, Todibo, and Wague.
Midfielders: Sergio Busquests, Arthur Melo, Frenkie De Jong, Ivan Rakitic, and Arturo Vidal.
Attackers: Messi, Suarez, Griezmann, Carlos Perez and Ansu Fati.
Players Not Included in the squad: O. Dembélé, Jordi Alba, and Umtiti miss out the tour to Nuevo Estadio de Los Cármenes in Granada due to injury.
This is perhaps the most obvious choice for Valverde. Ter Stegen is the first choice Goalkeeper to start the game. He played like a beast in the Champions League against Dortmund. He made 4 very crucial point-blank saves and also saved a penalty. Ter Stegen single-handedly saved us from losing that game. He is a gem to have in our squad and he is surely going to start every game in LaLiga and Champions League if available.
With Jordi Alba out injured, Junior Firpo is the first choice left back. However, it is not yet confirmed if Valverde will make him start the game or he will play Semedo there first. Junior Firpo is a very bright talent yet to represent our First Team in a competitive game. His presence can be good for us. However, it is also important to see if he can handle the pressure or not.
On the right back, Semedo is the first choice player. Semedo also had a decent game against Dortmund where he was made to play out of his position. Furthermore, Semedo was very much involved the entire game and played with great effort. His form can bring life into our defense.
Gerrard pique is going to start at the Right Center Back slot. On his other side, the first choice Center back is Lenglet. Both these defenders are putting in good performances lately. However, they need to work on their co-ordination, and just like we said in our tactical analysis article, they must work to close down the space for opposition attackers instead of running out wide and leaving a big space in between.
Sergio Busquests is the first choice Holding midfielder. Busquets did not have a great impact in our previous game against Dortmund. However, we know how good he is and how important his presence is in the squad. Meanwhile, our Central Midfielders are likely to be Arthur and Frenkie De Jong. Arthur is getting better day by day and he really holds the game for us. Frankie, on the other side, makes lethal goal-scoring chances. This is turning out to be one of the best midfield duos in Spain.
Griezmann did not impress playing on the wing against Dortmund. I think Valverde must have noted this already. However, If he has not learned anything from our previous game, and continue playing him on the wing, then we can expect poor attack from our side again.
Now that Messi is back in the squad, it’s inevitable that he would start the game on the right wing. We, the fans, have waited for a long time to see him back in the action. Personally, I think he is back to his 100% fitness and should start the game. This is preciesly why he came in as a substitute against Dortmund.
On the other side, Ansu Fati is the most likely starter due to his good performances which look to get better day by day. Ansu Fati is on the verge of making a permanent place in the First Team Squad as a Left Winger.
Antoine Griezmann is the first choice Striker for us. Barcelona bought Griezmann for a hefty 120 million price tag. He was brought in to score goals and take some burden off the shoulders of Messi. He needs to step up and start doing that. Hopefully, Griezmann can find the goal more than once in the away fixture against Granada.
Our bench is pretty strong heading into the away game. Suarez is there as a super-sub who can be vital against tired legs. Furthermore, Ivan and Vidal will add up to make our midfield very strong. Both are great in their respective positions and can often score as well. Most importantly, Sergio Roberto will be there on the bench as a utility player who can play almost everywhere. Carlos Perez, Todibo, and Neto will also be there on the bench to support if needed.
Totally Changed Midfield:
We may witness a heavy rotation in the starting lineup, especially in the midfield. It’s simply because the players need rest. It’s going to be our 3rd game in 7 days which also include the Journey to Germany for our Champions League clash against Dortmund. Valverde may bench both Arthur and De Jong for this game and start with Rakitic and Vidal.
To be honest, I wouldn’t be surprised with this change. First of all, both De Jong and Arthur played 90 minutes against Dortmund and they might not be rested fully. Secondly, both Rakitic and Vidal have not had proper game time since the start of this season. So, it’s totally understandable if both these players start.
Griezmann Suarez Messi – GSM/MSG:
Considering the nature of Valverde, it’s pretty evident to think that he would start Griezmann, Suarez, and Messi on the front. I am totally against it. However, but you know Valverde and his stubbornness when it comes to situations like this. Anyways, this would be the first time GSM/MSG play together right from the start. So, even if I am against it, I am still excited to see how this trio performs.
I think Barcelona is going to handle the pressure well. Griezmann is now suited to our playing style. Ansu Fati looks very confident. Junior Firpo has a great reputation as well. Furthermore, we are not losing games recently. Most importantly, Messi is back which doubles our chances of getting 3 points. His comeback also boosts our confidence. So, according to me, Barcelona is going to clinch a 3-1 victory against Granda.
