Welcome back to TalkBarca. Our topic for today is the Match Preview between Getafe vs FC Barcelona. The International Break is over, and FC Barcelona is all set to continue their La Liga campaign. Barca is up for a tough challenge in the face of Getafe.
Ronald Koemann’s men are going to travel away to play against Getafe. This is not going to be an easy fixture for sure. Koemann needs to be very cautious about his player choices and his tactics in order to dominate Getafe. Getafe is very dominant at their home, and they are not going to hold back.
GETAFE VS BARCELONA MATCH PREVIEW
Getafe has won two, drew one, and lost one of their 4 games in La Liga this season. However, they are a very consistent side and know very well how to play against FC Barcelona. Barca is also playing under a new manager. They have had a good start to their new season. However, they drew the first crucial game of the season against Sevilla. This is another crucial encounter, and it is going to be interesting how Ronald Koemann plays his team today. Barca’s Jordi Alba is also out due to injury.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM GETAFE?
Getafe’s new manager, Jose Bordalas is a very experienced man. He has a long career in coaching football, and winning trophies. Therefore, Getafe is not going to go easy on FC Barcelona. Getafe does not have many La Liga titles under their belt, but they do have a record of finishing at decent spots every year. Bordalas have managed multiple teams. It is not going to be a problem for him to read Koemann’s tactics and play against them. We have seen Getafe playing with a mostly 4-4-2 lineup this season under their manager, Jose Bordalas.
Their players are physically very fit and like to press their opposition from high u on the pitch. Furthermore, they do not prefer to play many small passes like FC Barcelona. Instead, they prefer quick counters and long balls to their forwards. They are defensively very strong and like to stop their opposition from attacking from any area of the pitch. Ronald Koemann also spoke about the current Getafe team,
“Getafe have been doing a lot of positive things over the past few seasons. They are a winning team, and they have reached Europe which is a fantastic achievement”
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM FC BARCELONA?
Barcelona has done quite well under the new manager so far. However, they need to step up their game a little. Koemann has made his plans clear, and his playing style is pretty simple as well. He is trying to implement his philosophies while implementing the old Barca style as well. This is exactly what the club needed. Koemann has also made his player choices pretty clear as well. Barca’s defense has certainly improved under him. However, the 4-3-2-1 formation does have its flaws when I implemented against teams who try to press a lot.
Therefore, it is going to be interesting if Koemann changes the formation or experiments against Getafe. The pressing quality of Getafe is not very different or weak than that of Sevilla. Barcelona struggled to keep the ball especially when the CDMs and the defenders were marked. Furthermore, Frenkie De Jong and Sergio Busquests still have not adjusted to their newer roles in the team. Antoine had a great International Break with France. However, he has to still shine with FC Barcelona. Sergino Dest can have more playing time in this game as well as Ousmane Dembele.
The club and the fans expect a lot from them. Therefore, they must deliver.
VERDICT
The final verdict from TalkBarca is that Barcelona is going to win 0-2 or 1-2. Barcelona is very keen on winning titles this season. Therefore, Koemann is going to try to deliver his best in every game. Barcelona has won 4 out of its last 5 meetings against Getafe. This makes them the favorite for this encounter as well. In fact, Barcelona is undefeated in the last 17 games against Getafe FC.
A win here is going to benefit FC Barcelona a lot. Let’s wait and see what happens.
