Welcome to TalkBarca. Today, we will be taking a look at Fifa Player of the Year Ceremony that took place earlier this week. A lot of football fans around the world came to vote for their favorite players/coaches to win these awards. Undoubtedly, this is one of the best ceremonies of the year, giving awards to not only men but female players and coaches as well.
FIFA PLAYER OF THE YEAR CEREMONY
In this article, we will take a look at all the individual awards in both Men and Women category. Let’s dive into it!
Men’s Individual Awards:
Goalkeeper Of The Year:
Playing as a goalie is very tough and most of the people don’t want to have a career as a goalie. However, if you play as a keeper and win awards here and there, it is for sure a big achievement. Fifa Goalkeeper of the year is Alisson Becker from Liverpool.
This is not the first trophy the Brazilian national has won this year for his efforts between the sticks. He kept a total of 21 clean sheets in the English league. This is an achievement most goalkeepers can only dream of. Furthermore, he won the Champions League with his club.
Alisson kept five clean sheets in Champions League out of which four were in the knockout stages. Moreover, he also won the Copa America with his country in which he was crowned as the best goalkeeper as he only conceded once during six games. What a year for Alison Becker!
Coach Of The Year:
The Liverpool staff and players have been all over the footballing world this season. Jurgen Klopp is officially the best coach in the world. This is a very special year for him. His team, Liverpool FC, lost in the Champions League final during 2017-18 season and also in the Europa League final in 2015-16 season.
Klopp completely reshaped Liverpool and proved to be a live saver for Liverpool. He is undoubtedly, a savior for this club. Klopp has lead his team to some unforgettable match wins including the historical come back from 4-3 aggregate against the mighty Barcelona.
Then, obviously, who can forget the 2-0 win against Tottenham Hotspurs in Madrid leading to the Champions League winner crown. Not to mention, Liverpool had 97 points in the Premier League where they only lost once in the entire season. They are also the favourites to win this season. What a hero!
Puskas Award:
Puskas is the award which is given to the best goal of the year. Daniel Zsori won this award. The 18 year old is awarded this prestigious award due to a stunning bicycle kick he scored in his league game. He told everyone that he had practiced this move several times during training and it was inspired by his idol, the legend, Cristiano Ronaldo.
Best Player Of The Year:
This is a special treat for Barcelona fans. This award is given to the best player of the year. Who else? Lionel Messi was crowned as the best player as fans from around the world bursting into joy as soon as it was announced. Leo lead Barca to LaLiga title and also won the Golden Boot award during 2018-19 season.
This is his sixth golden boot. However, his unselfish and team play attitude also lead to 13 assists which is another achievement in its own. His efforts also took the Blaugranas to the Champions League Semi-Final where they were struck by some hard luck and a great comeback from Liverpool. Messi also lead his national team from the front. He delivered great performances for the country. He is now, officially, the Best player of the year and he deserved this more than anyone else.
Women’s Individual Awards:
Goalkeeper Of The Year:
Sari van Veenendaal won this award. She ended up as runner-ups in World Cup with the Netherlands. Her performances in that tournament lead to the Adidas Golden glove award. Not only did she amazed us with her national performances but she also helped her club, Arsenal FC, and had a very good season.
Coach of the year:
Jill Ellis is officially the best women’s coach. Her side remained very dominant in reaching the final in France. Overall, she had a great season with her country and surely, she is one of the most deserving to win this award.
Player of the year:
The fan favourite, Megan Ropinoe won the Player of the year in Women’s category. She lead her side to a successful triumph in the Women’s World Cup. She scored against Spain, France, as well as in the final. This got her the Golden Boot and the Golden Ball award. Rapinoe has registered her name among the finest in history. She is an inspiration to millions.
Verdict:
