Welcome back to TalkBarca. Our topic for today is the Match Preview of the El Classico. Barcelona is up against their arch-rivals Real Madrid. The game is going to take place at FC Barcelona’s home turf, Camp Nou. Barcelona is coming off after a good win against Ferencvaros in the Champions League. On the other hand, Real Madrid lost their Champions League encounter. Real is a mentally and tactically very strong team. Therefore, the defeat in the Champions League is not going to bother them much. However, Barcelona does have the momentum and it is going to count a lot.
FC BARCELONA VS REAL MADRID MATCH PREVIEW
Both, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona are not at their strongest this season. In fact, both teams dropped points in their last La Liga games. Barcelona could not find a way to score against Getafe, hence losing 0-1. Furthermore, Real Madrid also fell short to the newly-promoted side, Cadiz. Barcelona managed to dominate their opponent in the Champions League. However, Real could not do that as well. Therefore, it is fair enough to say that both teams are going through a transition phase. This is why El Classico is so important.
Barca has played fewer games than Real Madrid. Therefore, it is very likely for them to make it to the top more easily than Real. However, an El Classico is very different from an ordinary league encounter. As a matter of fact, it is the biggest fixture of the year. Every season, the fans wait anxiously to witness the EL CLASSICO. The FC Barcelona manager also spoke about it recently,
“Classico games are games decided by small details, it will be strange to play without an audience”
There you have it. Words from the boss himself. No recent form, previous results, or anything matters in this fixture. The team which is willing to fight the most wins the EL Classico.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM FC BARCELONA?
FC Barcelona is in pretty fine form considering their mid-week encounter against Ferencvaros. The players are beginning to get back on track. Furthermore, Koemann is using his wingers very wisely. Barcelona also seems to be creating a lot of changes lately and is giving its opposition defenders a tough time. Ousmane Dembele, Trincao, and also Ansu Fati are making a perfect place for themselves in the squad.
Therefore, it is going to be really difficult for Ronald Koemann to decide who to start in attack. It is going to be a tough choice in deciding between young talent or expertise. I think he is going to go with a little bit of both because the option of substituting players is always going to be on. However, the major problem for FC Barcelona lies in the defense. Barca has somehow improved its defensive play as well, but it is still not enough. Gerrard Pique picked up a useless red card in the game against Ferenccvaros. That red card is not going to affect this game, but it still exposes the sloppy side of Barca’s defending.
Even Ferencvaros was able to really push the Barca’s defense in the opening 10-12 minutes of their game. Therefore, a lot of work needs to be done over there. Jordi Alba is declared to be fit and he is likely to start that game. Furthermore, Sergio Roberto is the most likely player to start on the Right Back ahead of Sergino Dest. The holding midfield position is most likely to see the duo of Frenkie De Jong and Busquests. There is still no guarantee about who is going to start on the wings, but Messi is going to be there for sure.
Antoine Griezmann might get a starting role in the squad as well.
WHAT TO EXPECT FROM REAL MADRID
It is still not confirmed if Sergio Ramos is going to make a place for himself in the starting 11 or not. However, his absence is going to skyrocket the confidence of FC Barcelona. Real Madrid has not been playing at their best this season. Their last two games were very easy for a team of this caliber. In fact, no one ever thought that Real was going to lose them.
Dani Carvajal is out for a few months and the team is definitely feeling his absence. However, Zinedine Zidane has a lot of options on his bench to trouble FC Barcelona. Vinicius Junior and Karim Benzema are going to be the key to Real Madrid’s attack. Both of them need to be lethal and clinical with every move because a game of this magnitude can shift to one team or another within seconds.
Furthermore, Zidane is going to use his midfield in order to block Barcelona’s quick play and keeping possession philosophy. Valverde and Toni Kroos are going to be the most important figures in Real Madrid’s midfield. Toni Kroos combined brilliantly with Vinicius Junior the last time both teams met. He was, in fact, able to get the winner for Real Madrid. This shows that Kroos is definitely going to be the brains in the midfield.
On the other side, Valverde is going to be more of a physical threat and he is going to run non-stop pressing and troubling every FC Barcelona player. Vinicius also contributes to this very often. Both Vini, and Valverde are physically very capable. Therefore, FC Barcelona must be well prepared to play against them.
El Clasico is certainly, the biggest fixture of the season as well as the biggest club rivalry of all times. Nothing, but will and desire to fight matters in this fixture. All the worries, planning, and tough training are for the players and the managers. The game for the fans is in fact, a treat. It is going to be a bit odd watching this game in an empty stadium. However, the hype is still going to be similar and the no one is going to take this lightly.
No score predictions this time. We just hope FC Barcelona wins.
