Welcome back to TalkBarca. Our topic for today is the Match Review of FC Barcelona vs Cadiz in the La Liga competition. The misery continues for FC Barcelona. First PSG and now Cadiz. FC Barcelona hosted Cadiz on the Camp Nou surface to resume their La Liga journey after the R16 clash in the Champions League. However, the home side failed to pull off the win despite going 1-0 up. The match ended 1-1 and now FC Barcelona is in hot water.
Here is the Match Review of the game discussing the first half and second half.
FC BARCELONA VS CADIZ MATCH REVIEW
FC Barcelona stepped into this game with a mentality to lower the points gap between them and Atletico Madrid. Ronald Koemann chose the same side that lost against PSG. Maybe, Koemann was trying to prove that the team just had a bad day against the French club and that they are still very competitive. Nevertheless, the team remained very ineffective for the entire first half. Cadiz was very comfortable in letting FC Barcelona keep the ball. Cadiz did not even press that much. They just sat back in their half and did more defensive work than attack.
However, Cadiz did give away a cheeky penalty in the first half. It was Pedri who was taken down by two Cadiz players in the box which lead to a penalty. Leo Messi converted it very comfortably and increased his goal-scoring tally in the La Liga this season. Still, Barcelona could not dominate. Cadiz was easy not having the ball and not being able to pressure the home side at all. However, they were keen on not leaking any more goals and this is exactly what happened as well. Barcelona was not improvising as well. Big teams always have a plan B. However, Barcelona had zero creativity and versatility in its game. They just kept possession aimlessly.
The second half was better from both sides. Both teams showed a lot more will and creativity. Cadiz played more intensely as well and FC Barcelona created many chances too. However, finishing still remained very poor from the home side. Ousmane Dembele missed easy chances. He had a good game but was simply poor in front of goal. FC Barcelona’s midfield dominated as well, but once again had nothing to prove for it.
FC Barcelona has suffered a lot this season because of its mistakes and this game was no exception as well. Lenglet shot Sanchez’s foot in the box and that resulted in a penalty kick. Ter Stegen had a good game, but not good enough to stop that penalty kick from going inside. Therefore, Cadiz equalized.
The Blaugranas had many shots in this game. However, they failed to pull off a win from this one. Yes, they had a bad day, but they need to work as well. We expect Koemann to have more plans up his sleeve. We want our players to be more accurate.
Barcelona is now 3rd in the league. Can they win the Liga?
