Welcome back to TalkBarca. Our topic for today is the FC Barcelona vs Bayern Munich Match Review. This is one of those articles which I do not feel like writing at all. I have a lot to say, yet it feels like I am out of words. I can sum up this entire game in one word for FC Barcelona; Humiliation. Bayern Munich humiliated us by all means. Barcelona lost 2-8 to the German Champions who have made their way into the semifinals of this year’s Champions League. Another CL, another knockout game, and yet another FC Barcelona’s poor performance.
I know that Bayern Munich were the favorites to win the game. They always looked to be the better side before the game even stated. I was thinking to myself that even if Bayern beats us that would be a maximum of 3-0, but no. Bayern absolutely made us look like kids. It was as if a u19 team playing against the u12 team. Bayern dominated us. Dominated is a pretty small word. Bayern wrecked us. They destroyed us. They made us looked like amateurs. The Germans were out to humiliate Barcelona and what they did to us is more than humiliation.
Barcelona never looked going on in the game. I might talk about my players later in a separate article, but what was this? Nothing was right about it. I was not happy with the lineup. Our players looked tired and helpless. They were running around as if they had no idea what to do. Another important update is that Quique Setien had been sacked as FC Barcelona manager following the humiliation against Bayern Munich. I won’t discuss this at the moment. Yes, he made mistakes too, but what about the players? Did they forget to play football of what? Totally disappointed!
FC BARCELONA VS BAYERN MUNICH MATCH REVIEW
What do I say? Bayern dominated right from the first minute. They were toying with Barcelona. Bayern began to press us right after the game started. They were pressing high and winning balls continually. Meanwhile, Barcelona tried their best to keep more possession. However, they would lose the ball after a maximum of 4-5 passes. Bayern knew what they were out there for. They had a mission to accomplish and they did it. Bayern looked to be the winners of this game right from the start just because of their body language and energy.
Muller opened the scoring for Bayern Munich after converting a low volley. However, Barcelona equalized a few minutes later. Jordi Alba played a long ball in and Alaba put it into his own net due to confusion. That moment looked as if Barcelona would bounce back. There was a hope that the players are going to elevate their energy levels and push more. However, it did not happen. Barcelona did miss a few chances. Suarez missed a one on one and Messi hit the post after his cross was missed by 3 players. However, Messi wasn’t the best as well.
There were two moments in the first half where the Argentinean could have set up or lead to goals. First was when he brilliantly dribbled 2-3 Bayern players. Semedo made a good run and was into space. Messi should have passed the ball to him and he would have been in a one on one with the keeper. He could have passed the ball to Suarez as well or any other available player who could have finished the ball into an open net. However, Messi aimed for the far post and ended up hitting a straight, loose, out of power attempt at Manuel.
The second was when Sergio Roberto made a run to the right side where he was open. Messi should have reacted faster and played him the ball earlier. Messi delayed the pass a lot which lead to more Bayern players arriving in the box. Ultimately, Roberto’s attempt to pick out Barca player in the box was intercepted. Messi was not good. Certainly, not. Others were even worse. I would not talk about Ter Stegen. His defenders upfront were poor. Bayern continued the domination and added 3 more goals to the tally. The first half ended at 1-4.
The Cules were still hoping for something magical as the second half began. Things looked better for Barcelona only because Bayern decided to go easy for a while. They were in the mood to play calmly and still controlled the game. However, minutes later Suarez converted another pass for FC Barcelona. It was a good finish from Suarez. His goal highlighted his quality which isn’t pretty much left in him. Anyway, that was just a consolation goal. The Cules definitely got hopeful after Suarez finished the ball. However, Bayern made sure that hopes do not last for long.
They began to dominate the FC Barcelona team and continued scoring goals. Bayern kept scoring back to back. Robert Lewandowski also got his name on the scoresheet which was exactly something he was out there for. Barcelona looked feeble, weak, poor, and ineffective all the time. It was looking as if the players have given up hope and there was no will to fight in any Barcelona player. If you think that was the worst thing from the night, then you are wrong. Coutinho came in towards the end of the match and out of nowhere, scored 2 goals.
Are we still thinking about selling him? Maybe because we sold our pride anyway.
Anyway, guys, this is it from the FC Barcelona vs Bayern Munich Match Review. Let me know your thoughts about this game. What do you think about this poor performance? Does Barcelona need to start all over again? Is Messi really not a big match player anymore? What do you think Barcelona needs to do in order to improve the situation at the club.
