Welcome back to TalkBarca. As we know Barcelona is in serious injury crises especially in the attacking areas. So, today, we are here with the latest injury news and updates of all the Barcelona players on the sidelines along with their expected return date. We are at the midway part of the season and still we are struggling with the similar kind of injuries that we faced at the start of the season.
Suarez, Dembele, and Arthure are all out of the squad with injury issues. This means that we don’t have any depth in our attack. We only have Antoine Griezmann and Lionel Messi as our first team forwards and this can hurt us badly in Champions League. The club has asked Quique Setien whether he wants to sign a new No.9. However, Setien has not answered that question yet. He wants to analyze his squad and see if he has reliable options from Barcelona-B. Anyways, let’s take a detailed look at our injury updates and the expected return dates of our injured players.
FC Barcelona Injury News & Updates
Ter Stegen:
I would like to start with some positive news. Marc Andre Ter Stegen is back from the knee injury he suffered ahead of the clash against Espanyol. We saw him training under Quique Setien and he looked really sharp. Our “Wall” is back in business and it’s interesting to see if he would start against Granada this weekend. Personally, I wouldn’t start him unless he is back to his full fitness. It’s because we cannot afford a relapse.
We know how important Ter Stegen is to our team. He has been our best performer since the start of the season and has been more consistent than Lionel Messi. Neto started in our previous 3 games and he could not fill the shoes of Ter Stegen.
Arthur:
Arthur is such a strong player for us in the midfield. He partners up perfectly with De Jong and Busquests. However, he is out injured from 5th December due to Pubitis. We have missed his presence in our midfield against Real Madrid and Atletico Madrid. He is expected to return from his injury on January 20, 2020. Arthur has missed 7 games during his injury and we expect him to miss our next game against Granada as well.
We need Arthur to return asap because our midfield is definitely missing him. He is already back in training with the first team. Only one more game and we will be able to witness a newly transformed Arthur under Quique Setien.
Dembele:
Dembele has been really vulnerable lately. He is getting injured very frequently. He recovers, makes his way back in the squad, and then gets injured again. This is probably more than a fitness issue and our Medical Staff needs to check it thoroughly. We don’t have many options in our attack and Dembele’s injury is only adding fuel to the fire. However, the good news is that we heard Dembele is recovering nicely and he is expected to return from his injury in 3 weeks’ time.
He suffered a hamstring injury around the end of November and expected to return on February 13, 2020. Dembele has missed quite a few games this season due to consistent injuries and setbacks. I hope he doesn’t get injured again and show his full potential under Quique Setien. I am really excited to watch him develop under Setien because he makes players better.
Suarez:
Luis Suarez is the final player on our injury list. His injury is a major blow to our attack and our team will surely miss him. He is a fighter and does not shy away from doing dirty work if it’s good for his team. Suarez suffered a knock to his knee in the Super Copa De Espana Semi-Final against Atletico. He has already gone through a Surgery and will out of the squad for the next 4 months. It’s real shame to see Suarez going down like that especially when he was performing so well. Luis Suarez got an issue in his knee at the start of December. Yet, he decided to play for the club while fighting with constant pain.
Even when he was playing with an injury, he still managed to grab the La Liga Best Player of the Month award. Lastly, the reports have highlighted that Suarez took pain-killing injections before featuring against Atletico in Supercopa. This shows his commitment to the badge. We are definitely going to miss him in our attack. Luis Suarez is expected to return from his injury by May 10, 2020. Until then, I hope Griezmann gets his chance in the Number 9 position and shine for us. Let’s see how Quique Setien manages without Suarez!
