Welcome back to TalkBarca. Today, we are going to Review the Full Month Of December for FC Barcelona. December has been a good month for us in terms of victories, and scoring goals. We also enjoyed the El Classico which turned out to be a disappointment as it resulted in a draw. Furthermore, a lot of our weaknesses were exposed in December. Meanwhile, our manager, Ernesto Valverde continued to disappoint us time and time again with his foolish tactics.
December is also the month in which the Ballon D’Or ceremony took place, and we all know what happened. Lionel Messi claimed his 6th Ballon D’ Or. He once again proved that he is the main man for Barcelona and the best player in the world. So, without any delay, let’s start the Full Month Review Of December for FC Barcelona.
DECEMBER REVIEW OF FC BARCELONA
We played a total of 6 fixtures in December including 5 La Liga matches and 1 Champions League game. 3 of them were home fixtures and 3 were away fixture. To be honest, it was one of the toughest months for Barca as we had to face Atletico Madrid, Mallorca, Inter Milan, Real Sociedad, Real Madrid, and Alaves. 4 of these 6 fixtures were against very tough and competitive sides. Barcelona won 4 of these 6 fixtures and the remaining 2 games ended as a draw. So, the important thing to note here is that we didn’t lose any game in December. We are still on top of the La Liga table and topped our Champions League group. Now, let’s take a look at the matches we played in December and review them briefly.
Atletico Madrid vs FC Barcelona
Atletico Madrid vs Barcelona was our first fixture of this month in La Liga. Like always, this was a highly anticipated match and Barcelona had a tough task on its shoulders. Facing Atletico at their home is certainly not an easier task. Furthermore, they greeted their ex-player, Antoine Griezmann with banners containing hateful comments, and even wrote his name on the floor outside the stadium so that people can step on it.
Atletico also troubled Barcelona during the game. They played with a high press and we clearly struggled against them. Both sides had atleast 6-7 chances to score a goal. This was a game in which both teams could have scored multiple goals. However, it ended with a 0-1 scoreline in favor of Barca courtesy of a magical moment from Lionel Messi. Barcelona picked up the 3 most vital points from this game which sent us to the top of the La Liga table.
BARCELONA VS MALLORCA
We welcomed Mallorca to Camp Nou to play their second fixture of the month in La Liga. This was one of the best games we played in the entire month. Barcelona played really good football. We saw a Messi masterclass in this game. We also saw a goal from Luis Suarez and Antoine Griezmann.
Messi represented his Ballon D Or award in front of the Camp Nou crowd before the match, and we all had a feeling that Mallorca was in for trouble. This is exactly what happened and Messi ended with a hattrick. The game ended with a 5-2 scoreline and Mallorca was on the receiving end right from the start.
INTER Milan VS BARCELONA
Barcelona traveled to San Siro for their third fixture of the month in the Champions League. Ernesto Valverde decided to rest a lot of key players and gave an opportunity to young players since we were already on top of the Champions League group. That squad certainly delivered. We introduced a team which contained almost our B team players, and we dominated the Serie A giants.
We proved that the Barca system is not about big names playing big games. Rather, it is our philosophy and our tactics that enable us to conquer games. Barcelona had no pressure going into this fixture because our qualification was already confirmed. However, we went to the San Siro, dominated Inter, and sent them straight to the Europa League. Both Carlos Perez and Ansu Fati scored for Barca. Ansu Fati literally stole the show with his brilliant goal right after 2 minutes of coming into the game.
Real Sociedad VS Barcelona
Barcelona went away to the Anoeta for their fourth fixture in December. Unfortunately, we failed to make a major impact in this game and dropped points. This match ended in a 2-2 draw, and Barcelona never got going. This was a really passive game, and Barcelona was never in the shape to win.
This game was also controversial in terms of officiating the game. The ref didn’t give a clear cut penalty in the dying minutes of the game. The worst thing is that he didn’t even bother to consult it with VAR. We could have won the game if that penalty was awarded in our favor.
A few days after this game, the UEFA Champions League Round of 16 Draw took place. We were drawn against Italian side Napoli in the Champions League knockout stage. You can check all the Champions League draws by clicking here.
Barcelona VS Real Madrid
The second last game of this month was the El Classico. The Classico was delayed earlier this season and it finally took place this month. Both teams fought till the last minute, and the match ended in a 0-0 draw. However, Real Madrid was the heavier side. They really pressed us and made life difficult for us. We certainly didn’t perform well in the Camp Nou, where we should have been lethal.
Real Madrid created a lot of chances but lacked control and finishing in the final third. in the first half, it seemed as if Madrid was playing in our box. We also created a few beautiful chances as well but couldn’t capitalize on them. All in all, Madrid had the quantity in creating chances but we had the quality. Anyway, both sides couldn’t register a goal and game ended as a goalless draw. The only positive thing to take from this game was the performance of our defense.
Barcelona VS Alaves
Barcelona faced Alaves in their last fixture of December. We won the game with a 4-1 scoreline, and Barca really played well. All our front three, Suarez, Messi, and Griezmann got their names on the scoresheet. Suarez provided 3 assists and ended as Man of the match. Our midfield was on point as well, and we ended the year on a great note.
Anyways, guys, this is it from the December Review of FC Barcelona. We had a great month in terms of results and stayed unbeaten in the entire month. We won against good teams such as Atletico Madrid, and Inter Milan. Our youngsters also proved that they are on the right track. We cannot ask them for anything else. Overall, this month has been a great success for us. You are welcome to share your thoughts in the comments section below. We always appreciate your feedback.
