Welcome back to TalkBarca. Our topic for today is the Barcelona vs Leganes Match Preview. Just a few days ago, we discussed Mallorca vs Barcelona Match Preview, and we are back within the same week for another one. This shows how tight these games are going to be, and how fast everything is going to happen from now on. Anyway, we are going to play on our home soil for the first time since March. Although I am not going to be within the stadium or anything like this, I get that home game vibe in my heart.
This is surely going to another exciting fixture. Hopefully, we are going to witness another FC Barcelona win today. We saw how well Barca played away from home against Mallorca to extend our lead. We got that 5 points lead from Real Madrid. However, Madrid played a great game as well and got 3 points too. The point’s gap between the two clubs is back to 2. However, I said this before, and I’ll repeat it again. Madrid has comparatively difficult fixtures than what we do. Furthermore, these fixtures with fewer gaps in between are going to be a mental challenge. So, it’s all about strong nerves.
We already know this, but I still feel that it is important to address this in every article that the match is going to be played behind closed doors. This is going to be similar to the teams visiting us. Just like Barcelona had no pressure going away because of zero crowds, other teams visiting us are going to feel the same advantage. Therefore, it is only our tactical preparation and our will which is going to help us win every game. However, I am pretty positive heading into this fixture, and I believe that another Barcelona win is coming. Now, without wasting any further time, let’s start our Match Preview of FC Barcelona vs CD Leganes.
FC Barcelona vs CD Leganes – Match Preview:
Firstly, let’s talk about the upcoming fixture of Real Madrid. Real is going to face Valencia next at the Santiago Bernabeau. Yes, they do have the home advantage. However, we know that Valencia always finds a way to trouble Real Madrid, and I really hope it happens this time around. Valencia CF is certainly not an easy opponent to face even at your own home turf. Now, every game is like an obstacle or a test that we have to pass at any cost.
Barcelona is already at the top, and a slight mistake or slip from Real is going to take us through as Champions. However, the same applies to us. If Barcelona commits any careless or even major mistake, it is not going to take Real Madrid much time to replace us at the number 1 spot on the points table. I think that if Real somehow comes at the 1st place, they are never going to get dragged down again. Therefore, we have to make sure that we stay firm at this spot, and stay careful.
Now, let’s talk about Leganes. Leganes is currently at the 19th place on the points table, and they have 23 points. They are also coming at our home ground for this fixture, so this provides Barcelona with all the mental boosts it needs to step into this game. Leganes is obviously going to fight back as much as they can because they are in the relegation zone. Therefore, they are going to try everything to at least make it to La Liga again next season. I think this is their only priority right now. So, we cannot take this one easy. Now, let’s have a look at the kick-off timings for Barcelona vs Leganes fixture around the globe.
The match is going to kick-off at 10:00 PM as per local time in Spain. The kick-off time is quite similar to that of the previous game. We spoke previously about the hot weather in Spain. Therefore, this timing is going to suit the players. Yes, there are going to be fewer fixtures at day time as well which are going to really put our players to the test. However, the cooling breaks are going to be really beneficial for the players, especially during the hot day timings. Kickoff for fans living in Pakistan is 1:00 AM, and 1:30 AM for fans in India. You can check the kick-off timings for your respective country/region in the following picture.
Squad Against Leganes:
Quique Setien announced a 23-men squad to take part in the match against Leganes. These players include:
- Goalkeepers: Ter Stegen, Neto, and Inaki Pena.
- Defenders: Semedo, Pique, Lenglet, Roberto, Umtiti, Firpo, and Araujo.
- Midfielders: Rakitic, Busquets, Arthur, De Jong, Vidal, Riqui Puig, and Monchu.
- Forwards: Suarez, Messi, Griezmann, Braithwaite, Collado, and Ansu Fati.
Jordi Alba is not in the squad because he got suspended in the last game against Mallorca after accumulating the 5th Yellow card. Now, that you know what’s our squad gonna be against Leganes, let’s have a look at the expected lineup.
FC Barcelona vs CD Leganes – Expected Lineups
Predicting a starting XI is so difficult simply because we have so many options. However, based on what we have seen from Setien and from the performance of the players, we have prepared an expected lineup for you. So, let’s check it out.
It is really obvious that Marc Andre Ter Stegen is going to start against Leganes. We keep talking about the same stuff about him. I mean, what else can we do? He is so good and so consistent that I am now running out of anything against him. He is always there when we need him, and showed brilliant signs of fitness even after 3 months break. Surely, he is our future captain, and I love the way he organizes the defense. I love how he is involved in passing with his back four. Overall, he is a gem.
Gerrard Pique and Clement Lenglet are going to form up the CB duo. Lenglet was suspended for the game against Mallorca, and I expect him to return for this fixture. We talked about Clement in our previous article about Transfer Priorities. We talked about how he is not among the best CBs in the world, but he still gets the job done for FC Barcelona. Lenglet is truly a fighter, and I am hopeful that he is going to show us more positivity. Similar expectations from Gerrard Pique. Pique is a club legend and true leader.
Jordi Alba got a booking in the previous game. Therefore, he is out of the squad due to suspension for this game. Jordi only has a one-game suspension and is most likely to start against Sevilla who we are going to face next. Jordi is going to be replaced by Junior Firpo. I don’t expect Setien to play at 3-1-4-2. I expect him to go with a similar formation as the previous game, and that is going to put Junior Firpo as the starting Left Back. This is also good for Firpo because he is getting a chance to show his improvements.
Roberto is the most likely Right Back to start this game. Roberto had a great game against Mallorca. I was so happy and impressed to see him play. We need this from him. Roberto is no less than a club legend and is surely among the senior players. It is now time to prove his seniority, and play his heart out at the time when his club needs the most from him. Nelson Semedo is going to get his chance as well, and similar to Firpo, he needs to show improvements. The future of Nelson at Barca is still uncertain. Therefore, he has to prove his worth if he wants to remain at the club.
I expect Arthur, Busqi, and Vidal to start in the midfield. I am not expecting Frenkie to make a start because I heard that he is feeling some sort of discomfort, and is not fully fit. He was also subbed off in the previous game due to the similar reason. Therefore, Quique is never going to risk his key midfield player to play with discomfort and be at a chance of getting injured. Arthur’s future at the club is also uncertain like Semedo, but he needs playing time to show his class. I think this is one great opportunity.
I don’t have much to say about Vidal or Sergio Busquests. Both delivered against Mallorca, and I am expecting the same. I would like to appreciate Rakitic one more time because of his previous performance. I do get biased at times for Rakitic because I liked him since he joined. However, he rightfully deserves credit for his game against Mallorca, and I think Quique is going to use him sometime somewhere in this game as well. Overall, I have good hopes from my midfield players, and I think that this midfield is going to dominate Leganes. Let’s wait, and see.
Let’s talk about our expected number 9 first. I expect Suarez to start, and I really think that this is going to happen for sure. Griezmann could not impress much in the previous game and he is really struggling for his form. On the other hand, Suarez showed some unrealistic improvements. Therefore, he deserves the starting spot and is most likely going to get it. I want Suarez to score a goal because that is going to elevate his confidence. Our most likely wingers are Messi and Braithwaite. There can be a swap between Braith and Grizzy. If I was Setien, I would start Braithwaite ahead of Griezmann to keep his confidence sky-high. Also, let’s be honest, he earned the spot with his previous performance. However, I expect to see Griezmann at some point in the game.
Anyways, guys, this is it from the Barcelona vs Leganes Match Preview. Our team took a flying start. Therefore, I expect another 4-0 in this fixture.
