However, our majority content from now on is going to be more about Opinions and the latest news. Therefore stay tuned and give us feedback about what you want to read about. Let’s jump right into today’s topic.
We are going to talk about three players today. We are going to talk about Griezmann, Eric Garcia, and David Alaba. Yes, all three players are on Barcelona’s list to buy or sell in summer. We are going to talk about all three of these individually and then we are going to comment if Barcelona needs to buy or sell them. We already know which position is our main priority to strengthen this summer. Therefore, my comments are also going to depend upon our utmost needs. Furthermore, we are also going to talk about the possibility of these signings.
A report was issued earlier today which stated that Barcelona is not going to hesitate to sell Antoine Griezmann this summer. Critics have completely labeled Antoine Girezmann as a flop at FC Barcelona. Furthermore, the club thinks that Griezmann can pave way for other forwards. They believe that Griezmann can be sold to any other club to generate funding to bring in a potentially better attacker. The club is also eyeing to bring in Neymar and the Brazilian winger is also interested to return to Barcelona. What do you guys think about this? Should Barca sell Griezmann?
Griezmann can potentially leave Barcelona to complete a move to PSG in what can be a swap deal between FC Barcelona and Paris Saint Germans. Griezmann is going to have a good company in the PSG team considering that the club already has many French players in their squad. However, that is not a concern at the moment. The main point to discuss and talk about is if it is fair enough to sell Griezmann to PSG or any other club for that matter? The club undoubtedly prefers Neymar over Griezmann and they are eyeing for an offer for Griezmann.
If we consider the stats and figures than Griezmann did not really do worse than what Neymar did during his first season at Barcelona. However, Neymar was able to give more assists than Greizmann. Still, the figures do not differentiate a lot. I certainly do not rate Griezmann as a flop. However, the fans including myself expected a lot from the French Center Forward. I think the club is more to blame than the player himself. I am going to talk on that topic next. There is nothing certain about Griezmann’s future at Barcelona. Stay tuned for more details to come soon.
Is Griezmann really a flop?
One word answer to this question is NO! There is no way someone can rate Griezmann as a flop. You can never judge a player so strongly after his first season at a club. Griezmann could have done a lot better if there were fewer problems caused by the management. Griezmann began his career at FC Barcelona playing out of position. He was never a winger. Even if you somehow convince me that Grizzy should have done better at the wing, still he should have played on the Right Wing. This is because he is left-footed.
Griezmann is a striker and he only played at that position when Luis Suarez was not available or subbed off. Barcelona is a unique club and it is unique due to its different playing style. Barca style of play is really distinctive and it can take any player time to adapt to Barcelona’s playing style. Therefore, you cannot expect Griezmann to come well prepared and start banging goals right away. He took his time and he is still not 100% adapted to the playing manners at this club. Griezmann deserved a lot more playing time than what he got.
Even Quique Setien was at times unfair to him when it came to playing time and more playing minutes. There were numerous occasions and games where Griezmann deserved to start or come on in early. However, Setien moved with other choices and let me be clear. I said other choices, not better choices. So, Griezmann was ignored at many places where he deserved to be there on the pitch for us. Yet, he puts in a lot of effort whenever he plays. You cannot count him out. I think he deserves to stay at Barcelona and play where he likes.
We talked about Eric Garcia in one of our previous articles as well. The reason I am talking about him again is that his move to Barcelona looks very likely now. Manchester City’s coach, Pep Guardiola is keen to keep the young Center Back at the English Club. However, the Center Back is more interested to move to Spain and represent the Catalonia badge. Eric is already a La Masia product and it looks like that he has set his heart to move back to the club where he learned a lot about football. What do you think?
Man City has already signed Ake who looks like a replacement for Eric Garcia. This signing of Ake to City has made it more likely that Garcia moves to Barcelona. Eric Garcia is just 19 years of age and at such a young age playing time is the main priority. Garcia is more likely to get a lot more playing time at Barcelona as compared to Manchester City. City has several options to use ahead of Eric Garcia. However, Barcelona is currently desperate for a permanent replacement for Gerrard Pique. Therefore, Garcia can get a lot more minutes in Barcelona.
However, there is also a possibility that the English club keeps the CB for one more season. Garcia’s contract with City is expiring in 2022 and this could mean that Barcelona might have to wait one more year in order to bring in the young CB. However, I do not think that Barcelona can depend 100% on the Pique and Lenglet duo to handle the defense. Therefore, we have to wait and see what happens. If this deal proceeds, then Garcia is going to sign his contract with FC Barcelona in August and I think it can be a great signing.
David Alaba has been on Barcelona’s radar for 2 years now. However, I am going to make one thing clear before we proceed with this discussion. It is very unlikely that Alaba comes to Barcelona this summer. That is why this transfer news holds little to no significance at all. The reason for that is Alaba is still under contract with Bayern and his contract is expiring next year. This means that Alaba can come to Barcelona for free when his contract expires. Bayern is also not very interested to extend the player right now. Do you understand?
Bayern has currently labeled there player as not available to any club which is interested in him. However, things are likely to change when his contract expires. It can also lead to Bayern selling the player despite a lack of consent. Therefore, it is best for Barcelona to wait and play their cards right for signing David Alaba. Alaba is a really creative player and can definitely make Barcelona a better team. He is capable of playing at three different positions namely Left Back, Left Center Back, and also as a CDM. Therefore, he can give a huge advantage to FC Barcelona.
Barcelona also believes that the player is versatile and is easily going to fit into the Barcelona playing system. Furthermore, Alaba’s father has direct contact with FC Barcelona which can make the signing process really easy for both parties. It only matters on Bayern Munich if they are willing to offer Alaba an offer which he cannot refuse. Otherwise, you can expect Alaba to come to Spain at FC Barcelona to advance his career. However, it is time to focus on the present and not think too much about the future. We need quite a few players in this window as well.
