Welcome back to TalkBarca. Our topic for today is the discussion for future possible destinations for Antoine Griezmann. This is the second part of our short series of articles in which we are analyzing and deciding which current FC Barcelona player can move to which club? This is important as the winter transfer window is almost here and FC Barcelona is going to very busy in it. We previously covered the same article about Riqui Puig which you can read from here.
Antoine Griezmann has still not sparked to his best for FC Barcelona. The Frenchman previously missed his penalty against Real Sociedad in the Supercopa Tournament. With FC Barcelona eyeing to bring in Erling Haaland to the club, is it time that Griezmann looks for any other destination?
TRANSFER OPTIONS FOR ANTOINE GRIEZMANN
Griezmann is a world-class player and we all know this. However, the French forward has struggled since the beginning of his journey at FC Barcelona. There were times where he really showed his caliber. However, he has failed to be consistent with it. He also missed his penalty against Real Sociedad. This was not expected from him and Griezmann should have taken his team home. Nevertheless, penalties are heavily dependent on luck as well; therefore, we can let him get away with it. The major problem is that Grizzy is failing to score on a consistent basis and this is not what we want from him.
The club bought him for a very heavy transfer fee and so far, his overall career at Barca is considered as a flop. Griezmann is very consistent with his assists this season. However, the major problem still remains that he is a striker and not a midfielder. He also puts in a lot of effort in games; still, the major demand from him is to score goals.
Barcelona is now eyeing to bring Erling Haaland to the club and if it happens, Griezmann can be permanently benched. This is something that the former Atletico Madrid striker is not going to accept. Therefore, here is a list of three possible destinations where Antoine Griezmann can consider moving to if Barcelona decides to sell him off.
INTER MILAN
Inter Milan is a very likely destination Antoine can move to. The cub is already blessed with two phenomenal strikers namely Romelu Lukaku and Lautaro Martinez. However, the major problem at Inter Milan is that Conte has still not found his perfect team. Christen Eriksen and Alexis Sanchez are two other big names at the club. However, they are failing to do their job properly. The major problem with Inter these days is that its creative players are failing consistently to create anything for their strikers upfront. Therefore, the team is lacking points.
The best thing is that Inter Milan is still on the right track to compete for the league title. However, Conte is a manager with a very broad vision. Therefore, he is going to target doing well in the Champions League as well. Griezmann can definitely not serve as a striker at the club, but he can easily fit in as an AM. Grizzy is very comfortable to play in that position. Therefore, he can do better than what he is already doing in Spain. Griezmann can play very defensively as well. In fact, he has a very good ball snatching ability too. Furthermore, he is very creative in his passes and has a very fine vision. This can help the team fill in the weakness which is currently harming them a lot.
Conte would definitely welcome a player who can come and start creating chances for his forwards upfront.
MANCHESTER UNITED
This is not the first time that Griezmann is linked with a move to Old Trafford. However, this transfer is not very likely to happen as well. There are several reasons for it. Griezmann’s price tag is never going to be of any problem for a very rich club like Manchester United. Furthermore, the authorities at Old Trafford are also very clear that signing Jadon Sancho is nearly impossible at the moment. Therefore, Ole can welcome a creative player who can help Man United do better in Europe.
What is the problem, then? Griezmann is going to prefer playing at any of these two positions. He is either going to be comfortable playing as number 10 or as number 9. Now the problem is that the creative or playmaker role at Manchester United is already taken by Bruno Fernandes. Griezmann is good. However, replacing Bruno Fernandes especially in the form he is currently at is almost impossible. The second option for Antoine Griezman to play for the Red Devils is as a number 9 aka Striker.
This is also less likely as Griezmann’s performances for Barcelona playing upfront have not been very great. Let’s be honest, Man United is currently at the top of the table in the Premier League. They are going to go all out for the Prem trophy and are also going to go crazy in UEFA CL. So, the major question is that will United sign a Center Forward who is nothing less than a gamble?
PSG
Griezmann was previously linked to PSG as well. Just like Manchester United, Griezmann’s price tag is nothing for the owners of PSG. Griezmann can team up with fellow French team players such as Kylian Mbappe. Furthermore, the new boss Pochettino is guaranteed to give playing time to Antoine Griezmann. Therefore, Griezmann can actually consider a move to France. The major and the only problem, in this case, is if PSG is going to take the risk with Griezmann. Let’s just face it; Icardi is no better than Griezmann. However, Griezmann is not past his prime age. Therefore, signing him to compete in the UEFA CL as well as in the Ligue 1 is a risk.
Do you think PSG is going to take it?
CONCLUSION
Antoine Griezmann is still to impress much at FC Barcelona. We all know there is a lot of potential in him. However, he has struggled so far to perform with consistency. A move to another club can be beneficial to the player. Therefore, he can definitely consider a move to either Inter Milan or PSG.
Playing for PSG can help the Frenchman to play at a much higher level as PSG is expected to do better in Europe as compared to Inter Milan. Which team would you prefer for Antoine Griezmann?
